Duluth has another local brewery to add to the roster. This one is opening with the mantra 'Don't brew scared' as it looks to try bold, new things in the world of beer. Named for master brewer and owner Dave Hoops, Hoops Brewing is making a home of the old Timberlodge Steakhouse location, next to Red Lobster.

Hoops is a 6-time Great American Beer Festival Award winner and has led the brewing efforts a brewery in California, as well as nearly 20 years as the master brewer at Fitger's Brewhouse in Duluth.

According to posts on the brewery's Facebook page, demolition and reconstruction on the old Timberlodge location in the fall of 2016. The Growler's profile of the business describes the 9,000-square-foot location as one that "emphasizes the natural beauty of the building’s existing woodwork." The space houses the company's brewing equipment, plus a beer hall capable of seating up to 250 people, broken into different areas around the facility.

PerfectDuluthDay explains that there will be a number of mainstay beer offerings, along with a series of experimental beers like a honey lavender ale. The facility has enough space for 30 taps, and will offer anywhere between 15 and 30 different varieties of beer on any give day, according to their website. Hoops will not serve food, but reportedly will welcome "take-in" from other eateries in the area.
