A few months ago a judge granted Rick Lake Township requests to be a city. Yesterday the new city elected their first Mayor.

John Werner won the election as the first mayor of Rice Lake, garnering 795 votes, Jayme was runner-up with 358 votes according to unofficial vote totals Tuesday night. The results will become official after a board meeting later tonight. The first meeting of the Rice Lake City Council will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 22.

Werner has been serving as a Rice Lake town supervisor and stressed the importance of continuity of leadership as the town makes the transition to a city. He is also a Vietnam War veteran, and has been at a Veterans Affairs hospital on the West Coast receiving treatment for cancer that was diagnosed earlier this year.

I think it's great that Rice Lake is now a city and I'm excited to see how Werner runs things as a Mayor. Let me know what you think of Rice Lake becoming a city and electing their first Mayor in the comments below.
