Minnesota’s North Shore Gets National Recognition
It had to be a tough job, but USA Today managed to compile a list of the top 20 scenic drives in America. Among legends like the historic Route 66 is a breathtaking drive right here in Minnesota that winds through some of the most spectacular landscape in the state.
USA Today has nominated Minnesota's North Shore Scenic Drive as one of the best in the country. This 154-mile stretch along the North Shore of Lake Superior, from Duluth to the Canadian border, is truly one of the state's hidden gems.
Why the North Shore Scenic Drive Stands Out
Also known as Minnesota State Highway 61, USA Today describes it as offering, "fantastic views of Lake Superior, complete with waterfalls, rugged cliffs, and forested hills."
In addition to the national spotlight, the North Shore Scenic Drive has also been designated an All-American Road, the highest distinction given to scenic byways in the U.S.

Along the drive you'll pass by iconic stops like Gooseberry Falls State Park, Tettegouche State Park, Split Rock Lighthouse, and several charming small towns.

Now, this picturesque route is competing for a spot on USA Today’s "10Best" list for the Best Scenic Road in America.
Voting is open now in this category, along with others like Best Gas Station Chain and Best Roadside Attraction, both of which also feature Minnesota nominations. You can cast your vote here until Monday, May 5. The top 10 list—and the number one scenic drive in the country, will be revealed on May 14.
