Yeah, you read that right...a toilet camera. It sounds pretty weird on the surface, but I'll explain.

Wisconsin-based Kohler, a huge name in the toilet game (and other plumbing and household fixtures), recently announced a piece of technology for your bathroom that got the internet chuckling a little.

Headquartered in Kohler, Wisconsin, the company has been around for over 150 years. It started in 1873, making farm implements, pivoting to bathtubs and other plumbing products through the late 1800s and early 1900s to become one of the top brands in the industry.

I guarantee that when the company was founded, nobody envisioned selling a tiny toilet camera, but as over a century and a half has passed, we're certainly in a very different era in technology and health.

Health is the idea behind this quirky-sounding new product. While I'm sure there are some jokers chuckling about the idea of being able to capture images of brag-worthy bowel movements, that's not the idea behind this new product.

The new camera product, called "Dekoda", is kind of like a smartwatch in the sense that it can help you monitor aspects of your health and wellness. You just don't wear this piece of tech.

Kohler calls the Dekoda a first-of-its-kind device that attaches to your toilet to track a number of elements about your health. On their product page for Dekoda, they say it can analyze your hydration and gut health to help monitor your health and help build healthier habits.

The company also says the camera can help detect blood in the toilet bowl, which can be an indicator of potentially serious health issues.

When you get past the initial toilet humor that might pop into your head when you hear about a toilet camera, it has the potential to be particularly handy, especially for people with specific health concerns or conditions.

The camera attaches to the inner rim of your toilet bowl, and Kohler says no tools are necessary to attach it, as it uses an "innovative clamp" to attach to nearly any toilet. Once it is installed, the rechargeable device pairs with your smartphone via an app for you to monitor your movements.

The product page says they've invested more than a decade of research to develop this unique health product. Here's a promo video announcing the new product:

How much does it cost for such an innovative piece of technology? Well, the device is listed for $599 on the company's website, but that's not all.

Along with the nearly $600 price tag, there is also a requirement to pay for the Kohler Health Membership, which is a subscription that can support single users or whole families.

The monthly cost is $6.99 or $70 per year for an individual plan, or $12.99 per month/$130 per year for a family of up to 5 people.

While it isn't cheap, it is certainly an interesting piece of innovative health tech out of the great state of Wisconsin. Here are some other products you might not have known were invented in the Badger State:
