Imagine Dave Portnoy, the fearless founder of Barstool Sports, setting off on a noble mission—not with armor and a sword, but with an insatiable hunger, a camera crew, and a dream. His goal? To find the best pizza in America, one bite at a time. He's finally made it to my home state.
While the world knows Chicago and New York for their legendary pies, Wisconsin has quietly been serving up some of the most underrated (and highly rated) pizzas in the country. And let’s be honest, if Portnoy ever made it deep into Wisconsin, he’d probably leave with a newfound respect for our cheese-loving ways—and maybe a Packers jersey if we play our cards right.
Portnoy's method is simple: take one bite, deliver a verdict, and change the course of a pizzeria’s future forever. His reviews have made some spots instant bucket-list destinations, with fans flocking to try a slice of what he deems worthy.
The highest score a pizza can achieve is a 10, and to this day, only one place has ever claimed that elusive title.
But what about Wisconsin? Let’s dive into the state’s best One Bite-reviewed pizzas and see which spots have left Portnoy—and pizza lovers everywhere—speechless.
Top One Bite Pizza Rankings in Wisconsin
One thing will become very clear as you go through this list, Dave has only been to Maidson. That does make it easier to try all the pizzas he says are the city's (and the state's) best pizzas.
One Bite Score: 6.1
One Bite Score: 6.8
One Bite Score: 7.4
One Bite Score: 7.4
A pair of 7.4s is the highest ranking he's given Wisconsin pies. It might be time for a return visit.
One of the pizzas Dave ranked is no longer around but as a child, it was the place my sister loved more than any other. I remember how excited we'd get when our parents told us where we were having dinner. So sad that Paisan's in Madison is gone.
Watching Dave's review below upset me. He said "Too much mozzarella." There is no such thing as too much cheese, foolish man.
Since his visit, Madison's Pizza Di Roma has also closed.
