Jay-Z Sued Over Alleged ‘Run This Town’ Song Sampling

Jay-Z ran the charts with ‘Run This Town,’ but a scorned record label wants to run that town right into the ground over an alleged illegal sample. The ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ rapper is being sued for allegedly sampling a track for his 2009 collaboration with Kanye West and Rihanna.

TufAmerica Inc., a New York record label, is suing Jigga Man and Roc Nation over what they claim is an unauthorized sample of a 1969 track called ‘Hook & Sling Part 1′ by Eddie Bo. The lawsuit alleges that ‘Run This Town’ samples the song numerous times. The New York Daily News reports that the suit requests proceeds from the hit as well as damages to be determined at trial and a court order to cease “further distribution and exploitation” of ‘Hook & Sling Part 1.’

The suit lists Hov, Roc-A-Fella Records, LLC, Atlantic Records and more among the defendants.

It’s not the first time TufAmerica has filed a claim against a major artist. Rolling Stone reports that the label has also sued the Beastie Boys and Christina Aguilera, as well as filing a suit against Yeezy in 2012 over ‘Hook & Sling’ allegedly used on multiple tracks of ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.’

You can tune in to both songs below. Here’s hoping both parties find a settlement they’re happy with … and that they pay more attention to paperwork in the future!
