The Winter Olympics open on Friday, Feb. 7 and Russian pop duo t.A.T.u., who cultivated a lesbian image, will reportedly be a part of the festivities.

Given the country's policies regarding the LGBT community, and its ban on children being exposed to 'gay propaganda' and non-traditional relationships, that's quite a shock. Has Russia turned a corner regarding gay politics?

The details remain at large, but according to The Wall Street Journal, sources familiar with the events stated that Russia's team will make its entry into the stadium with t.A.T.u's 2003 song 'Not Gonna Get Us' playing. The ladies will perform at the warm-up show but it won't be broadcast internationally. The song was a hit in both the U.K. and the U.S.

The video for the band's other 2003 hit 'All the Things She Said' featured them smooching while dressed in school uniforms, as the duo was known for its lesbian schoolgirl persona. Both eventually married men.

The duo posted and then deleted a tweet about their appearance.
