28th Street Road Work Starts June 10 In Superior
If you drive in Superior, chances are you've encountered the stretch of 28th Street from Hill Avenue back towards Highway 2 (essentially the roadway that runs in front of the Mariner Mall (on the south side) east out to Highway 2. If you're not familiar with it - you must not have driven it in the last few years; it's desperately needed some asphalt patching work to fix the potholes that are unavoidable across all of the lane surfaces. The good news? It looks like they're finally going to do something about it.
According to the City of Superior, roadwork on that stretch is set to begin on Wednesday, June 10 in a partnership project with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Signs have been installed to alert drivers to the impending project. This work will stretch from Hill Avenue - heading east towards East 8th Street. Included in the work is a new asphalt road surface, a modified lane configuration allowing for bicycle facilities, and improved safety measures at the railroad crossing including new signals and gates.
Those signals and gates for safety improvements at the railroad crossing will bring a secondary sub-set project; starting Monday, June 15 18th Avenue East will be closed between East 8th Street and East 9th Street.
The entire project is anticipated to be complete later this summer. Drivers can expect a smoother road surface, bike lanes, and many built-in safety features.
