The United States of America Women's Hockey Team took home gold for the first time since 1998 as they beat Canada in a shootout.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Robb Stauber, a Duluth native, the US Women's Olympic Hockey team beat rival Canada 3-2 in a shootout to claim gold. The goalie who backstopped them to a win? None other than University of Minnesota-Duluth's Maddie Rooney. Rooney, a redshirt junior from Andover, made 29 saves during the game plus stopped 4 out of 6 attempts in the shootout.

But wait, there's more!

The first goal of the game was scored by Hilary Knight on a tipped shot. The original shot on net was taken from Sidney Morin, a 2017 All-American for the UMD Bulldogs where she was an alternate captain for Duluth during her senior year (2016-17).

On the other side, Canada had one former Bulldog on the roster in Brigette Lacquette. Lacquette played for the Bulldogs starting in 2011 and was drafted by the Calgary Inferno of the CWHL in 2015.
