Duluth’s Newest Smashburger Spot Is Big On Flavor, Easy On The Wallet, Even Has Dessert!

If you're looking for a new spot to grab a great burger, maybe a beer, possibly even dessert, and do it a little cheaper than you might at some other places around town, you need to swing by this new Twin Ports destination!

You might have heard this spring that a new burger place was teaming up with Chilly Billy's at their Woodland area location in the Mount Royal Center.

When Chilly Billy's was purchased by its new owners, they made the move down the street from the Bluestone shops to where Vanilla Bean was located, opening in that new location in April of 2024.

When they opened there, they offered a breakfast menu from their new kitchen space. The breakfast offerings were pretty amazing, including one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had!

The decision was made to pivot in a new direction, partnering up with Madhouse Burgers to move toward more of a lunch and dinner offering to go along with their fantastic frozen yogurt, which is still offered at the shop.

Madhouse has been serving up smashburgers and other sandwiches for the last few months, and if you haven't been there, it's definitely worth checking out! I recently tried out The Southwestern" (seen above), a doubled-up smashburger with cheese, fresh pico de gallo, crispy jalapeños, and a smoky chipotle mayo. It just might be one of the best smashburgers I've ever had!

Their menu of entrees is all pretty reasonably priced, and you can add on fries or tots (I picked tots) for a couple of extra bucks. They can be ordered with some special seasonings on them if you want a little extra flavor.

The whole meal, plus one of their $4 all-day, every day tap beers that they offer, came out to less than I've spent at some other places around town for a similar meal, and I walked away stuffed and impressed with the price! If you have an appetite, this is a great place to grab some food at a reasonable price, even if you add on the tots or fries!

Making it even better, Chilly Billy's famous frozen yogurt and toppings bar is still right there, so you can either pop in just for some "fro-yo" or make it a dessert add-on to your burger or sandwich meal.

They're open from 11:30 am to 9:30 pm every day at 608 Woodland Avenue in Duluth.
