The COVID-19 pandemic has brought an abundance of changes to everyday life for everyone; here's one more:  As cases continue to rise, the Duluth Police Department is making changes to how they respond to 911 calls for service.

For the time being, the Duluth Police will be responding to 911 calls over the phone.  To help free up available resources, here are the changes:

  • If you are reporting a crime that has no active leads and does not require an officer to respond - instead of calling 911, you're asked to report it online at https://duluthmn.gov/police/information-services/e-report-a-crime/.
  • Low-priority investigations will be delayed if necessary - allowing the police to respond to emergency situations, violent crimes, sex crimes, and crimes against children.
  • As of March 17, the Duluth Police Department headquarters and sub-stations will be closed to the general public.
  • As of March 18, the Duluth Police Department headquarters and sub-stations will be closed to the public and all nonessential employees.

These closures are expected to remain in effect until Friday, March 27 - however that timeline could change.
