Duluth’s Northern Waters Smokehaus Closing Storefront, Offering Walk Up Windows Instead
For years Northern Waters Smokehaus in Duluth would draw crowds from near and far as lines would fill the halls of the Dewitt Seitz building. But after being closed down during the pandemic the staff realized that they had outgrown the space and the long lines were causing a disruption to the other shops. So they decided to close the indoor storefront and instead will be offering walk up windows instead.
They hope that by installing the windows for outdoor ordering and pickup and expanding the production area they will be able to turn out its famous sandwiches even faster than before. This way they can cut down on wait times in line and would be easier for customers to get smaller orders as well.
Marketing director Flo Matamoros said to the Star Tribune:
We want to be able to provide fantastic customer service, regardless if your order is one bison buddy or 10 sandwiches. I'm guessing it will be hard news for people who have only experienced us as a deli" with the display cases full of house-smoked fish and cured meats, but we will again have a front-facing customer experience. We really missed talking about our food with people.
The deck and pickup area has been remodeled which will offer more outdoor seating and also more seating can be found near the newly remodeled lakewalk as well. The last step is to get the walk up windows installed and they hope to have everything done sometime in July. For now Northern Waters is only taking orders by phone at 218.724.7307 or Toll Free: 888.663.7800
Even though we all know we only have warm temperatures for dining outside during a very narrow amount of time, I am sure customers will be able to adapt with the new to go only pick windows because all of their food is so delicious you will find somewhere to go eat it.
