Groundbreaking Has Finally Begun For Taco Bell In East Side Of Duluth
It has been a long wait to see some action happening in an empty lot on the corner of 21st Avenue East and London Road in Duluth, besides the road construction that has had 21st Avenue East closed down since June. The fencing is up and a construction crew with a front-end loader is digging away at a hill to make more room for what is going to be a new Taco Bell.
Here is the timeline, back in October 2017 a BP gas station closed its doors for good, In June 2018 it was announced that a Taco Bell was going to be built in that spot. In 2019 the old gas station was finally knocked down giving many, myself included that they were moving forward with building the restaurant but the lot has sat empty until now.
In the meantime, a Taco Bell was built in West Duluth and another most recently opened in Superior on Tower Avenue. There is no word on why it took so long to get this project started. The project manager spoke with FOX21 and said: "The fast-food restaurant will have dine-in options and a drive-thru."
The fourplex behind the property will remain in place, so it will be interesting to see how they are going to be able to have a drive-thru and inside dining options in such a small area, but after the lot has been cleared out it will be interesting to see just how big the building and parking lot will be.
This will be the third Taco Bell in Duluth and it is expected to be open early next year if all goes as planned. That area in itself is home to many fast food businesses including McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, and Taco Johns. So we will see if the weather cooperates to allow the builders to stay on their timeline to get this built.
