How Much Did We Get, Anyway? Halloween 2024 Snow Totals
Despite the wishes of some sadistic folks, the Halloween 2024 snowstorm was not much like the Halloween Blizzard of 1991 across Minnesota and Wisconsin.
While it was the first measurable snow of the season for much of the region, there weren't any towns in either Minnesota or Wisconsin that saw anything nearly as aggressive as the storm that walloped the region over 30 years ago.
Before Halloween, there was a winter storm watch issued. While that is often a precursor to an impending winter storm warning, conditions didn't warrant that, and a less-severe winter weather advisory went into effect on Thursday for parts of the region.
While we didn't get buried, there were areas that saw measurable snow on Halloween in our part of the world.
So, how much did we get? Now that it's all done, here are the reports from the National Weather Service for the Halloween 2024 snow event:
Henriette, MN: 4.5 inches
Sandstone, MN: 4.3 inches
Monticello, MN: 4.3 inches
Duquette, MN: 4.1 inches
Kerrick, MN: 4 inches
Winthrop, MN: 4 inches
Wentworth, WI: 3.8 inches
Shell Lake, WI: 3.5 inches
Maple, WI: 3.3 inches
Finlayson, MN: 3.3 inches
Solon Springs, WI: 3 inches
Gile, WI: 2.9 inches
Hinckley, MN: 2.8 inches
Brule, WI: 2.6 inches
Holyoke, MN: 2.3 inches
Oulu, WI: 2 inches
Duluth, MN (NWS Office): 1.6 inches
Not exactly scary numbers, but they do mark the first snow event of the 2024-2025 winter season and serve as a reminder, to quote a popular TV show, "Winter is coming".
For those not quite ready for winter, the good news is that while we do have some more wet weather possible around parts of the region into the weekend and to start next week, the weather will be slightly warmer for the weekend and into the first full week of November.
