This week in 1999 'Notting Hill' one of the highest grossing romantic comedies opened up and Ricky Martin's biggest hit held the number one spot on the Billboards.

The romantic comedy 'Notting Hill' starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant opened up this weekend breaking a record as biggest opening for a romantic comedy at the time. The film was about a simple bookstore owner who's life changes once he meets the most famous film star in the world. The film was a success winning multiple Brit Awards and grossed over $360 million.

The number one song this week was Ricky Martin’s hit song ‘Livin La Vida Loca‘ which translates to “the crazy life”. The single sold over 8 million copies and was nominated for four Grammy’s and won the Hot 100 Singles Male Artist of the Year at the Billboard Music Awards.
