An Innocent 55 year old female mail carrier in Hoyt Lakes suffered a life-threatening head injury, including a skull fracture and four broken ribs, after her mail truck she was in was intentionally rammed by 56 year old Alan Lynn Birt of Maple .

According to the Duluth News Tribune has been charged with first-degree assault after authorities said he slammed his pickup truck into a postal vehicle at a speed as high as 80 mph last week in Hoyt Lakes. When officers arrived on the scene witnesses were tending t the injured postal worker who had been ejected for her truck by the impact of Birt ramming into her, and Birt was yelling and ranting and raving.

Witnesses said Birt  was driving a new three-quarter-ton truck when he struck the delivery vehicle and the truck sounded to be "maxed out" or "pedal to the floor" when the collision occurred. One witness estimated Birt was traveling around 80 mph. Birt was uncooperative at the scene and had to be tasered along with four officers to take him into custody.

When questioned at the hospital if he remembered what had happened he allegedly said  "Yeah, I killed that f---ing useless carrier,"  After officers told him he did not kill her, Birt reportedly replied: "Well, someone should." Birt was arraigned yesterday in State District Court in Virginia. His bail was set at $100,000 and he was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. As of now he remains in the St. Louis County Jail.
