This is just taking it a little too far. There are a ton of scams going around these days and some of them, I would even fall for.

In fact, some of them seem so legitimate that I have come close to falling for one or two over the years.

That's the ruse some scammers are using right now in Wisconsin, as reported by the Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative.

They shared a scam warning on social media late last month, and it's an important message for all Wisconsinites, since it could happen anywhere now.

How This Scam Works

According to this post, locals have received calls from scammers posing as employees of the business. From there, they tell the person on the other end of the line that meters need to be installed on their property.

Then, the scammer asks for personal information to 'verify' their identity. Another edition of this scam has also been reported, where scammers say a payment is due on your account and then ask for personal information to bring it up to date.

The Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative is reminding customers that they will not reach out about personal information so if you get a call like this, hang up and contact them directly.
