Every year, the question comes up.  Everyone knows people who always ask what resolutions we're making for the new year, right?  In the past, I'd usually come up with a ridiculous answer, like "My resolution is to stop forgetting my kids at the grocery store."  But not this year.  This is serious now, and I've made a real grown-up resolution.  And I'm going to share it with everyone I know so I can really, truly stick to it--no matter how hard it may be.

My 2013 New Year Resolution is to be fit.  Not just physically (that's something I promise myself every year) but financially fit.  Like most Americans, I have debt.  It's something we're used to--but we don't have to be.  I look forward to the day when I can go out to the mailbox without getting anxious because I know I'll get another envelope containing a lot of numbers I don't want to see.  Or wishing days away because a payday is around the corner.

My family has decided (well, my husband and I decided--the kids don't have much of a say) that we're going on a serious money diet in 2013.  Watching every penny that comes in--and goes out.  Making sure that the money we are spending is spent wisely.  I'll be the first one to admit I've been less than stellar when it comes to budgeting our money.  This isn't going to be easy.  I'm going to have to learn to say "no."  Whether it's to my kids, my friends and family, or myself--I am going to make this change.  I may end up skipping a coffee date, wearing holey clothes, or missing a night out on the town, but when I can finally say that I am debt-free it will be worth it.

What is your resolution for 2013?  Share it here!!
