Duluth’s Madhouse Burgers Announces Closure, New Restaurant To Move Into Space
I really enjoy supporting local eateries, and this news gives me some mixed emotions.
The team that runs Madhouse Burgers in Duluth's Woodland neighborhood announced today (December 4) that the eatery has closed, but there are already future plans for this location.
Their final day of operation was Wednesday, December 4.
Here's what the owners had to say about the closure, and what is next for this location.
End of an era for Madhouse & Chilly Billy's - What's next?
Madhouse opened this spring, serving up some delicious burgers and sandwiches, fries and tots, tap beer, and still offering the Chilly Billy's frozen yogurt that had been at this location prior to Madhouse opening.
In a heartfelt social media post, the team behind Madhouse Burgers thanked the customers who visited the eatery before sharing that "After a great deal of reflection, we made the decision to step back from this location".
Chilly Billy's had moved from the Bluestone shopping area, opening in this new location (the former Vanilla Bean) in Woodland after new owners purchased the brand from the founders as they retired.
When Chilly Billy's opened in this location, they used the kitchen space to serve a breakfast menu to complement the frozen yogurt offerings. This spring, they pivoted to more of a lunch and dinner experience, opening Madhouse Burgers from the kitchen space while still serving up Chilly Billy's frozen yogurt.
The owners of Chilly Billy's explained in their announcement about closing Madhouse that they will be focusing on their remaining locations at the Miller Hill Mall in Duluth and on Tower Avenue in Superior.
As they move ahead, the owners say they will be refreshing the Chilly Billy's brand, bringing back favorites, and exploring new possibilities. In the meantime, there are already plans underway for what comes next in the Madhouse Burgers location.
So while I am bummed that this place is shutting down, what's ahead sounds pretty delicious!
What's next for the former Madhouse Burgers/Chilly Billy's location in Woodland?
A popular local eatery will be taking over the space, bringing a new dining option to the Woodland neighborhood and expanding the footprint of this popular Twin Ports area brand.
The team from Pedro's, the popular Mexican food eatery in Cloquet, now with a location in Superior, will be taking over the space.

The new concept for the space, being called "Sabor by Pedro's" will utilize the kitchen and dining space to create a new dining experience in the neighborhood.
The owners of Madhouse explained that the Pedro's team approached Madhouse with "a thoughtful idea" for the space that they look forward to shaping into a new addition to the Woodland area.
The Madhouse ownership says they are grateful that "a trusted local restaurateur will bring new energy into this location" and encourages locals to support the new venture Pedro's will be opening.
There are no details on when the new Pedro's experience will open at this time, but we'll share those details as soon as they become available.
