Next time you’re checking out at a Minnesota Target or Walmart, cart piled high with your finds and cash in hand, don’t be surprised if the cashier takes a second look at your money and says, “Sorry, we can’t accept this anymore.”
These big changes are rolling out at these go-to retail giants, not just in the North Star State, but nationwide!
While credit cards and mobile payments have taken over, many of us still carry some good old-fashioned bills, right? Well, turns out, not all bills are making the cut anymore!
The Bureau of Engraving, the Secret Service, and the Advanced Counterfeit Deterrence (ACD) Steering Committee are shaking things up with new rules on how you can use cash - meaning these forms of payment could now be rejected, according to en.as.com.

And this is not just about those mysterious high-denomination bills that most of us have only heard about in history books. Who knew that $500, $1,000, or $10,000 bills even exist? They're not being made anymore, but they are apparently still in circulation - wild!

This shift goes deeper, targeting something called “mutilated currency.” You know, the bills that have seen better days - cut, burned, discolored, or generally looking like they’ve been through a Minnesota snowstorm and back. Definitely guilty of having a few bills taped back together in my wallet.
Why the change? The goal of the new currency rule is to boost security and eliminate damaged or counterfeit bills.
