The Lake Superior Ice Festival returns for another year of frozen fun.

Mark your calendar for the weekend of January 29th for some free, family fun at Barker's Island. Events will include yearly favorites like the snow slide, Disc Golf, Midwest Ice Racing Association and Lake Superior Ice Racing Association races, kids area, ice sculptures and more.

Event organizers have also planned some new events for this year's festival including K-9 King and Queen of the Festival hosted by the Humane Society of Douglas County and the public will be invited to build snow creations at Fairlawn Mansion. The weekend will wrap up with fireworks on 6 PM on Saturday.

The city and event organizers say that they will follow all CDC and Douglas County Health Department guidelines for all the events during the weekend. “To the best of my knowledge, outdoor gatherings responsibly planned have not been traced back to be a source for COVID-19 infection. We have had good luck with outdoor events and will be taking proper precautions to ensure this event is held as safely as possible,” said Superior Mayor Jim Paine.
