Record Store Day is held on the third Saturday of April every year to celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store.

Record Store Day was founded in 2007 and the day brings together fans, artists, and independent record stores across the world. A lot of records, especially older ones, are pressed specifically for Record Store Day and distributed to shops participating in the event.

Some bands even like to do something special on this glorious day like The Foo Fighters who played an intimate concert for fans at the Record Connection in Niles, Ohio. Marc Fayd'Herbe, sales manager of Universal Record has described this day as the "single best thing that has ever happened" for independent record shops.

I went down to the local record shop to participate and my pickups were 'Siamese Dream' from the Smashing Pumpkins, Bee Gees Record Day exclusive Extended Vinyl, and the soundtrack to 'Purple Rain'. I love helping out local businesses and especially when it involves music. I was ecstatic to pick these records up and I can't wait to see what next year's Record Store Day has in store.
