The Shockwave Jet Truck & Flash Fire Jet Trucks official Facebook page first broke the stunning news:
During today’s SHOCKWAVE Jet Truck performance at the Battlecreek Field of Flight Airshow an accident occurred as a result of a mechanical failure on the Jet Truck. Regretfully Chris Darnell the driver and my youngest son passed away from his injuries at approximately 1:01 pm.
No one else was involved.
I will post more information as we get it. We will provide Funeral Arrangements sometime this week.
We are so sad. Just one month ago Chris turned 40. He was so well loved by everyone who knew him. Chris so loved the Air Show business. He was
“Living the Dream “ as he said.
Shortly after the tragedy took place, news coverage and related videos started to emerge throughout social media.
The Duluth Airshow reacted to the tragedy on their official Facebook page, stating "Today the airshow community mourns a friend, colleague, and beloved performer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Darnell Family today and in the days ahead as they navigate this tragic loss."
The Duluth Airshow is scheduled for July 16 and July 17 and while there is once again an impressive lineup of performers, including the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, there will also be sadness in the air in the wake of this tragedy.
