Spirit Mountain officially opened its latest attraction today, the "Timber Flyer" zip line.  The ride has been thrilling riders since last week, but today was the big official "Grand Opening" complete with a Mayor, a Senator and a red ribbon for them to cut.

It was a gloomy morning with some spotty showers for those in attendance,  like Duluth Mayor Don Ness, State Senator Roger Reinert and the Duluth Chamber of Commerce, but the weather didn't dampen the excitement of everyone ready to experience Duluth's newest thrill ride! The "Timber Flyer" is the second in the line of attractions geared to make Sprint Mountain a year round destination for locals and tourists, the first was the "Timber Twister" Alpine Coaster which has been open for about a year now and located right next to the "Timber Flyer".  Spirit Mountain describes the "Timber Flyer" as:

an exhilarating thrill ride unlike a traditional zip line. On the "Timber Flyer" you can ride Single or Double on a bench-type seat secured with safety belts. The ride takes you zipping through the treetops, 700 feet down the mountain, overlooking Lake Superior and the City of Duluth. At the bottom of the zip line the "Timber Flyer" pulls you back up to the top... allowing you to take in the view on the way back up as well. The roundtrip takes riders approximately 90 seconds.

Spirit Mountain isn't done yet, they are currently constructing a 9 hole miniature golf course (opening soon)  and a 6 lane snow tubing park which is scheduled to open on December 26th.  I got a chance to ride the "Timber Flyer" and I can tell you that it is AWESOME and definitely worth the price of admission.
