$1,000 Reward Offered For Information About Superior Entry Break-in, Theft
The U.S. Coast Guard put out a media release today (June 2) about a recent break-in and theft at the Superior Entry South Breakwater Light on Wisconsin Point.
In the release, the Coast Guard is offering a $1,000 reward for information related to the break-in and theft.
The Coast Guard's Investigative Service (CGIS) says they believe the incident happened a couple of weeks ago, around May 13, 2026, with a suspect or suspects breaking into the privately-owned lighthouse on the south pier of the entry into the Superior, Wisconsin side of the Duluth-Superior Harbor from Lake Superior.
The individual(s) forced entry into the structure, cut the power supply, and stole the navigational beacon inside the lighthouse.
The Coast Guard explains that this is more than just a property crime, calling it "a reckless act that immediately jeopardizes public safety". In cutting power and removing the navigational beacon from the lighthouse, the Coast Guard says this creates "a severe hazard that could lead to catastrophic vessel collisions or groundings".
Stealing or tampering with a federal navigational aid is a federal felony crime and is being taken very seriously by the Coast Guard and its investigative team.

As the CGIS continues its investigation, they are offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the individual(s) behind this break-in and theft.
Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity, people, vehicles, or watercraft in the area of the Superior Entry Lighthouse or on Wisconsin Point around the date of May 13 of this year is asked to submit their tips through the CGIS Tips portal website. If you prefer, you can submit your tips anonymously.
