A new event occurring in Duluth this winter aims to help a great local charitable cause, while trying to set a new Guinness World Record in the process.

The event, being called "The Great Duluth Sweat Together", is setting out to etch Duluth into the record books by becoming the place to host the most people taking a sauna in one city in a day. There is currently no record for this achievement, and the inaugural Great Duluth Sweat Together hopes to set the mark this winter in what organizers say will become an annual Twin Ports area event.

The Great Duluth Sweat Together, which is being organized by the Brewhouse Family team (formerly Just Take Action, Inc.), will also serve as a fundraising opportunity for Life House Duluth. 100% of the net proceeds of the event will go to Life House, which provides homeless youth and young families ages 14-24 who are unstably housed and/or navigating various challenges in life with unconditional support, transitional housing, and a safe alternative to navigating life circumstances that may lead to couch hopping or living in the streets.

This year's in-person Great Duluth Sweat Together will be held from 3 pm to 8 pm at the grounds surrounding Endion Station Inn in Canal Park on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Portable saunas will be on-site to participate in the world record attempt, along with other fun for the entire family.

Along with the on-site sauna at the Endion Station Inn, portable saunas will be furnished by companies including Sauna du Nord, Nisswa Sauna, North Shore Sauna, Superior Sauna & Steam, Setri Barrel Saunas, Voyageur Saunas, Wisconsin Sauna, Heritage Saunas.

Some of the other things to look forward to at the event include things like a snow sculpture contest, yard games, beer from the Fitger’s Brewhouse beer trailer, grill food, fire pit, live DJ, plunge pool pumped with fresh Lake Superior water to cool off, pop-up booths with local artists and vendors, outdoor yoga, and other activities.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own towels and robes, which will be handy for the sauna and plunge pool. Another element of fun - there will be a short "robe parade" that will include a contest for best robe and slippers. There will be changing tents on site for changing into your sauna attire.

Entry to the event will be free, with a suggested donation of $10 per person that will go to Life House.

Duluth Mayor Emily Larson will be attending the event this year, starting things off with an introduction before festivities get underway.

The 10 Sounds of a Minnesota Winter

We love to hate the winter in Minnesota, especially in January and February. But in the winter there are some sounds that can only be heard in the wintertime. Some are very pleasant and others not so much.
