The Northland has seen plenty of rain as of late and while it's good for many reasons, it has caused a postponement involving Skyline Parkway in Duluth.

According to the City of Duluth, in a decision reached in conjunction with Duluth's Parks and Recreation Department, announced they are postponing vehicular access to sections of Skyline Parkway until Monday, May 31.

Each year, the City of Duluth closes sections of the roadway in the fall and then reopens them each spring when conditions are favorable to do so. The recent influx of rain is the reason for this decision, which impacts the following sections of Skyline Parkway:

  • East Skyline Parkway to Maxwell Road intersection
  • Maxwell Road from Oak Street to the intersection of Seven Bridges Road
  • Seven Bridges Road from the Lester-Amity Chalet north to the intersection of Maxwell Road
  • West Skyline Parkway from Magney - Snively Trailhead west to the closure located 1/3 mile east of Beck Road

While it can be an inconvenience to residents and tourists alike, it is important to limit traffic in these areas when conditions aren't favorable in order to keep them in good shape for everyone during the remainder of the season.

After what seemed like an endless streak of clouds, rain and cold, there is a little good news regarding Northland weather into the middle of April. We should see some sunshine and temperatures approaching 50 degrees from Thursday, April 15 - Sunday, April 18, before 30 degree temps return to start next week. You gotta love spring in the Northland!
