Bayfield, Wisconsin has a rich history in apples, but its history also includes ghosts, haunted buildings, shipwrecks, UFO visits, and Big Harry, Bayfield's Bigfoot.
According to the American Ghost Walks website, Bayfield is offering a Ghost Walk tour that begins downtown. The tour takes visitors on a two-hour, almost two-mile trip. During the tour, visitors are told the stories of hauntings, and the stories behind them. Sometimes you may see a ghost.
They will share stories of The Bayfield Public Library librarian that plays with children at the library and in her old house. You will go to Brownstone Courthouse, built-in 1883, and hear about the fire that burned it to the ground, and the hauntings that happen regularly inside it.
The tour guide will make claims of ghosts, apparitions, monsters, bigfoot, and even aliens. They have even named their resident Bigfoot. 'Big Harry', or Bagwajwinin, as he is known, walks in the covered forests surrounding the area; but they claim you might see him in town, walking up and down the city streets.
Enjoy a ghost story-style romance at the Knight House in the old Queen Anne Mansion: The story of William and Jessie Knight. Sometimes people claim to see them while hearing the story. Another spirit you'll hear about is Trench Coat Man, who is a tall, thin man who walks the streets for no reason.
You will go to the Old Iron Bridge to hear about UFO sightings. According to the Mutual UFO Network’s report database, Bayfield’s most recent UFO report is from 2018. but the reports go back to 1947.
Hear terrifying tales of the Apostle Islands. All the ships that have gone down, the haunted lighthouse, ghosts that visit the city from sunken ships.
Dress accordingly, the tours happen whether there is light rain, cold temps, wet trails or streets. The tour is wheelchair accessible, and they are limited to a few people at a time.
