What Is The Story Behind The Giant Rooster In Two Harbors?

How many times have you gone to Two Harbors and wondered why you are being greeted by a giant rooster? For me, 7 times and I wanted to know where this rooster came from.

For over 50 years, the giant rooster has been greeting people entering Two Harbors off Highway 61 in front of Weldon's Gift Shop. According to Two Harbors Chamber of Commerce, sometime during the 1960's a salesman pulled up to the gift shop towing a trailer of tall fiberglass animals: a bear, dinosaur, horse, and rooster.  Weldon almost bought the horse, but there was something about that rooster that caught his eye.

I always found it strange that a giant rooster is the first thing people see when they enter or leave Two Harbors. But it's definitely stands out and catches your eye right away.
