I know there are tons and tons of breweries in Minnesota, but it's still sad when one of them closes for good. Yet another Minnesota brewery has announced they'll be closing their doors. Yes, it's not the first one this year.

How Many Breweries Are There in Minnesota

As of 2024, the Brewers Association reports that Minnesota had 234 breweries. It made Minnesota the state with the 15th most breweries.

We have so many breweries that there are 5.5 breweries per 100,000 21+ people in the state! (That's based on the numbers from 2024.)

So yes, the market may be oversaturated. But like I said already, it's still sad to see one go. As a person who loves breweries, it's unfortunate, and as a person who can be way too empathetic sometimes, that was someone's dream that they now have to close.

Breweries that Have Closed in Minnesota in 2025 (So Far)

Anyway, the brewery we're talking about today isn't the first Minnesota brewery to close in 2025.

Another is Chaotic Good Brewing in Kasson. Technically, they closed at the tail end of 2024. Chanhassen Brewing Company also closed this year, and so did Mankato Brewery.

And now we've got another brewery closure on our hands. This time, it's Wild Mind Ales in Minneapolis.

Wild Mind Ales and Wild Grind Coffee in Minneapolis Announce They're Closing

Wild Mind Ales, which is also the home of Wild Grind Coffee, announced on social media earlier this week that they'll be closing sometime this year.

No reason was given as to why they're closing. I have to imagine it has something to do with money in some way, shape, or form.

They also didn't announce an official closing date yet. In their post on Facebook, they write,

[We] will be closing permanently in the near future, likely at the end of summer - maybe with a little luck we will last until the snow starts flying. While we don’t have an exact date yet, we felt it was important to let you know now.

I'm thinking they may not know because they're trying to ride it out as long as possible. Maybe going until they aren't able to pay a bill anymore, or maybe they're going until the beer runs out. Either way, it's sad to hear.
