I've been so busy, cleaning, working, sleeping, cleaning, cleaning, cleaning and cleaning that I forgot to share this jaw dropping view of the railroad tracks on N 21st St., near the YMCA in Superior washed out.

Due to damage from the flooding, I-35 will be closed tomorrow morning for emergency patching of the southbound lanes starting at the on-ramp at Highway 61 to Scanlon.

It's a dire situation that many Northlanders have often thought, "that could never happen here."  I know I've seen complete devastation on the the news and said that.  We're not on a flood plain.  We expect to hear about Grand Forks and Fargo getting hit, but we never think it can happen to us.  Until it does.

Contaminated water is always a major concern when cleaning up after flooding. The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District has acknowledged that sewer systems in the Twin Ports did overflow, making flood waters unsanitary in many cases. The Minnesota Department of Health offers the following tips for using bleach while cleaning up after the flood:

While the rain has stopped and much of the flood waters have receded, there is still plenty of danger associated with the remaining water. Officials and emergency crews offer the following recommendations to avoid remaining flood danger:

The area around Superior High School and the school itself sustained damage so severe that inches of standing water remained hours after the rain had stopped. The full extent of the damage done to the school is not clear yet. Check out our exclusive interactive panoramic view of the flooding

I'll update this as I get new photos.  My thoughts are with all those affected by the flooding.  Please be careful out there!  Keep your kids inside.  Stay off the roads if you can.  Nothing you have to do today is more important than your safety...

Heavy rain has made driving conditions in Duluth hazardous and we have many flooded roadways. City of Duluth Public Works crews are currently working to barricade danger areas.
