Not only were there 3 suspected arson fires in West Duluth last night, but there were also 3 suspicious fires in Superior reported in the early morning hours. There have been at least 15 suspected arson fires between Duluth and Superior since March, leaving residents in a couple of neighborhoods on edge and authorities on the hunt.

Captain Nicholas Alexander of the Superior Police department told me this afternoon regarding the possibility of a serial arsonist being on the loose in the Twin Ports, "We are certainly exploring that avenue and we have been in contact with DPD (Duluth Police Department) investigators regarding the possibility."

The 6 fires in Duluth were at:

  • 115 S. 65th Avenue West (RV)
  • 19 N. 66th Ave. West. (Garage)
  • Polk Street and 65th Avenue West (Truck)
  • 19 N. 62nd Ave. W (Garage)
  • 1919 E. Superior St. (Garage)
  • 4609 W. Fifth St. (Garage)

According to Captain Alexander, the 9  fires in Superior have been "in general North of Belknap Street and between Catlin Avenue and Tower Avenue." The fires in Superior started on March 20th with the recent rash in Duluth starting on April 24th.

Are all the fires linked together? Investigators will continue to process evidence and look for clues, but they are also asking for the public's help identifying any suspects or any suspicious behavior in your neighborhood.

Rewards are being offered and people are asked to call either Superior Police at 395-7465 or through anonymous texting, text the keyword "spdtip" and your tip to 847411. Or you can always call 911 in Duluth or Superior with information.

Below you'll see investigators on the scene this afternoon of the garage fire on 66th Ave. W. in West Duluth.
