A popular stop along Lake Superior - no matter the season - will be closed for a little while.  The City of Duluth is alerting the general public that Brighton Beach will be closed to vehicular traffic starting Monday, January 11.

The closure is tied to a work order to take care of advance prep related to a spring-time project.  According to details released by the City of Duluth, work crews from the public works department will be clearing and "grubbing" the area in preparation for trail construction that is expected to take place this spring.  (Grubbing differs from clearing in the following way:  "Clearing" a site means that workers remove all vegetation while "grubbing" is a more methodical process, where work crews actually dig into the soil to remove any remaining roots)

During the scheduled work, the park will be closed to all vehicular traffic.  Additionally, the parking lots at Brighton Beach will also be closed.  The city will establish traffic control at the end of the closure as well as a the end of the Lakewalk.

Officials also warn drivers who might be passing by Brighton Beach on the road to be observant.  During the work project, an assortment of large equipment will be coming in and out of the park area during in order to facilitate the project.

According to the timeline released by the City of Duluth, organizers expect that the work - and the closure - should only last two weeks.  As such - and baring any unforeseen problems and situations, Brighton Beach should re-open to the general public on Monday, January 25.
