Duluth Area Sees One Of The Coldest Octobers On Record So Far

This is the most 2020 thing ever! October has been a cold one in the Twin Ports and this is proof of that.

According to WDIO Meteorologist Brandon Weathers, the city of Duluth is currently in a race for the most days in October with highs below freezing. This isn't exactly a race we want to win but since we are already in the thick of winter, we might as well own it!

As you can see in the graphic above, this statistic is as of Wednesday, October 28th. There has only been two other times on record that we have seen this many days below freezing in Duluth: 1913 and 1917.

With a few days left in the month, we will have to wait and see if we have another day below freezing. The National Weather Service of the Twin Cities is forecasting a warm-up of sorts for the end of the month / Halloween and into November. If all goes to plan, we may not break the record after all.

By the way, even if we don't break this record, we still have had a record-breaking October. It has officially been one of the snowiest Octobers on record in the Duluth area - and the month isn't even over yet.

We've seen several rounds of moderate snowfall, with our first hitting near the middle of the month. We saw up to six inches of snow in the Duluth area and hundreds of spinouts and crashes statewide. I am a little scared to see what November brings. Ha!
