A Halloween-inspired event that was born out of COVID-19 necessity is back again this year by popular demand.  Haunt Your House - the Halloween decorating contest that's tied in to the Spooky Spectacular - is looking for homeowners and business owners to take part for fun and for recognition.

Haunt Your House participants decorate the outside of their homes or businesses with spooky, Halloween-related decorations; the more the merrier.  Once the application period is over, that's when the voting begins.  Maps will be made showcasing all of the entrants; the general public is invited to drive around, see the fun decorations, and then vote for their favorites.

Competition is divided between three categories:  Judge's Choice, Facebook Voting, and Selfie. That Selfie category is especially popular as the Superior Telegram explains:  "People visit the homes, take a picture of themselves in front of their favorite, and post it to social media.  The Home with the most selfies will be declared the winner".

The event started last year as a way of letting the community have some Halloween fun in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic shutdown.  Carolyn Nelson-Kavajecz, one of the members of the Superior Spooktacular board, shares:

"[Last years inaugural event] was cool because it got people out in the community and actually viewing the homes in person.  It was a fun and safe outdoor activity in 2020 and so we plan on continuing the same categories this year.  In addition, we will add a master's category for last year's winners."

The Haunt Your House Halloween decorating contest is free to enter and open to everyone - even commercial businesses.  Last year, the event saw one business and 20 homes take part; already this year, nine homes entered during the first week of availability.  Organizers anticipate a solid entry pool.
