A summer-long road construction on Highway 53 gets underway on Wednesday, May 29 - bringing single land closures.  Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are alerting the general public of the road work that will occur just south of Eveleth - between Golf Course Road and North of Highway 132.

According to the project plans filed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, this particular work on Highway 53 will include constructing by-passes on the north and south end of the road section, as well as conducting bridge rehab work.

Although there are no plans for a detour, drivers can anticipate single lane closures.  MNDOT says that that both sides of Highway 53 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.

For now, the timeline looks for this project to be completed sometime in September.  However, MNDOT always reminds people that completion dates can change depending on a variety of factors - including additional problems encountered and the weather.
