Looks like it is that time of year already!  Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are alerting drivers about the commencement of a road and bridge project along the North Shore on Highway 61.

According to details shared by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the Highway 61-Stewart River Bridge project will get underway on Monday, April 18.  Road crews will be on hand as of that date and the work will begin.

The summer project for the Stewart River Bridge will see MNDOT crews beginning construction of a new bridge parallel to the historic bridge that exists there already.  Traffic will remain on the existing Highway 61 with 12-foot lanes and no shoulders. The Kelsey Beach Parking Lot will also close at this time.

While April 18 is the start date for the work in the area, actual construction at the Silver Creek Bridge will begin later on.  At this point, the Minnesota Department of Transportation expects that part of the work to start about a month from now on May 16.

Work at the Silver Creek Bridge on Highway 61 will continue throughout the summer season, wrapping up for the season at some point in mid-September.  Then, following the winter off-season pause, it will resume again in the spring of 2023.

For more information about the Silver Creek Bridge project on Highway 61 or any of the road construction projects scheduled and coordinated by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, visit their project pages on the official website.  You'll find individual pages designed for each project as well as comprehensive overview pages that detail statewide projects.  They also include links for real time traffic information.
