Ready For Longer Days? Minnesota Will Gain An Astonishing Amount Of Daylight This Month
As we move through the middle of February, cabin fever might be setting in for many Minnesotans.
By now, the magic of early winter has worn off and a lot of people around Minnesota are starting to find their minds drifting toward thoughts of longer days and warmer weather.
While I can't guarantee anything about warmer temperatures, I can guarantee longer days and more daylight, which is a positive sign of the warmer seasons ahead.
Even though it's the same every year, it never ceases to amaze me just how much daylight we gain or lose in pretty short periods of time during the transitions of the seasons.
With Minnesota being as far north as it is, that really influences the large swings we see in the amount of daylight throughout the year. While we see a lot of daylight leave us in the fall heading toward the shortest day of the year in late December, we're on the upswing of longer days, and February will see a lot of additional daylight added to our days!
How much daylight will Minnesota add during February?
Even within Minnesota, it varies quite a bit from the northern reaches of the state in places like International Falls and even in Duluth when compared to the Twin Cities and places like Rochester.

Here's a snapshot of some of the major cities across Minnesota and how much daylight will be added during the month of February (hours:minutes:seconds):
Warroad: 1+:30:42
International Falls: +1:29:41
Bemidji: +1:25:59
Duluth: +1:23:49
Brainerd: +1:22:31
St. Cloud: +1:20:06
Minneapolis: +1:18:26
Mankato: +1:16:07
Rochester: +1:15:44
Albert Lea: +1:14:47
We're still quite a ways away from our longest days of the year in June, but we're getting on our way to longer days and warmer weather once again!
