Minnesota Twins Make Yet Another Unbelievable Decision To End Season
What an absolutely unbelievable year for Minnesota Twins fans. And I mean that in the most "frustrated fan" way possible.
Between gutting the roster at the trade deadline and announcing "ope, never mind, we're not selling the team after all", fans were already confused and frustrated with how the 2025 Minnesota Twins season went.
Now that the 2025 season for Minnesota has closed, falling well short of a playoff appearance, here's an exclamation point on the year.
The Twins announced Monday afternoon that the team's manager, Rocco Baldelli, "will not return as the team's manager in 2026".

Like most fans, I won't pretend Baldelli didn't make some frustrating or confusing decisions of his own. At the same time, he also helped bring Minnesota its first MLB playoff series victory in over 20 years. Does that make him unfireable? No. But the timing and what team leadership had to say about it got my blood boiling as a fan.
After a season where Rocco's ability to field a winning team was severely diminished by team ownership and management dumping players and not giving him any help, it leaves fans wondering - yet again - what the Minnesota Twins are up to. Or if they even know.
In the official statement from the team, Minnesota Twins leadership called Baldelli "more than our manager". Team President Derek Falvey called him a "trusted partner and teammate in leading the organization".
Later in the statement, team leadership explains that Baldelli failed to get the team to the goals the team had set. Saying "This game is ultimately measured by results, and over the past two seasons, we did not reach the goals we set".
The team went on to say they felt this was the time to make a change, concluding by saying the search for a new manager will begin immediately.

Again, as a fan, seeing the team ownership grumble about a lack of results when blatantly refusing to invest in players, I am just blown away. Was Rocco perfect? No. But using him as a scapegoat because of failures elsewhere in the organization is unbelievable to me.
In case you're curious, Rocco's final record was 527-505, and he earned three playoff appearances in his 7 years with the team, winning only one playoff series. Again, not great. At the same time, he wasn't often offered many favors with his roster by management. Especially this year.
After the 'selling the team, not selling the team' situation, purging the roster, and now dumping the manager over a failure to meet goals in a particularly challenging environment, I really hope the team can manage to make some moves this offseason that convince fans the team is worth supporting.
I feel like most fans saw the potential ownership change as a move in the right direction after many years of frustrating team decisions. With that off the table, blowing up the team, and blaming the manager, the team has some real work to woo fans back.
I won't be holding my breath, however.
