Minnesota Twins Sign Josh Donaldson to 4-Year Deal

The Minnesota Twins have added even more firepower to a record-setting lineup.  Josh Donaldson, a 34-year-old three-time All-Star, has agreed to terms with the team.

Donaldson signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Braves last season and had a powerful year, batting .259/.379/.521 (127 OPS+) with 37 home runs and 94 RBIs, according to Twinbaseball.com.

The Twins and Donaldson have reportedly agreed on a 4-year deal with $92 million guaranteed.  The Twins retain a fifth-year club option that would increase the value to over $100 million.

Signing the right-handed hitting slugger comes with additional costs:

Donaldson declined the Braves’ qualifying offer and is tied to Draft-pick compensation, meaning the Twins will forfeit their third-round Draft pick in 2020 and Atlanta will receive a compensation pick after Competitive Balance Round B. Teams that receive revenue-sharing money, such as the Twins, lose their third-highest unprotected selection in the following year's Draft for signing a free agent who rejected a qualifying offer. Minnesota's Competitive Balance pick is protected.

Donaldson will likely anchor third base for the Twins for the next several years, allowing Miguel Sano to primarily play first base.

This is a perfect addition to the Minnesota Twins offense and defense.  If they can add another top shelf name to their starting pitching staff, they will be poised to finally do some serious postseason damage next season.
