The 2024 Duluth Polar Plunge was held on Saturday, February 17, once again hosted on the harbor side of Park Point. Despite windy conditions and a need to move the plunge site due to ice safety concerns from this winter's abnormal weather, hundreds of plungers still braved an icy dip into the water in support of Special Olympics of Minnesota.

Organizers with the Duluth Police Department say 671 plungers participated in this year's event, raising over $137,000! This year's event saw an increase in the number of plungers, and even included some local notable figures like the Duluth Police Chief and Mayor.

Students from a number of local colleges, members of the Hermantown and Duluth Police Departments, Duluth Fire Department, and staff from some local TV stations were also among those who took the plunge.

While this winter has been warmer and less snowy than most winters in recent memory, the water waiting for plungers was still quite frigid for the big plunge. With air temperatures around 30 degrees through the plunge, a persistent wind provided a little extra chill to make this year's plunge feel a little chillier than the thermometer read on Saturday.

The Polar Plunge is an annual statewide effort among Minnesota police departments and community organizations to raise funds for the Special Olympics of Minnesota.
