District officials say they’re seeing a noticeable rise in caffeine use among students, particularly in secondary schools, and the effects are showing up in the nurse’s office. Students have been reporting a range of symptoms linked to caffeine overload, forcing the district to step in and send a district-wide warning email to families.

Wisconsin School District Warns Parents About Student Caffeine Use
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children and teens are far more sensitive to caffeine than adults. The Rise of Caffeine Pouches
One of the biggest red flags for the district is the rise of caffeine pouches, small packets that are placed between the gums and cheek. The caffeine is absorbed directly into the bloodstream, delivering a rapid, concentrated dose. Officials warn that the effects can hit within minutes, making it dangerously easy to consume too much.
The district encourages parents to talk to their children about caffeine’s risks, keep an eye on what they’re consuming, and promote healthier energy alternatives.
