Do You Know About Northern Minnesota’s Most Underrated Scenic Fall Overlook?
There's no denying it, there are tons of spectacular scenic views across Northern Minnesota. Once the vibrant colors of fall come around, those stunning views get even better!
Take, for example, places like Palisade Head just north of Silver Bay or Oberg Mountain near Lutsen. Both of those destinations offer some pretty breathtaking panoramic views that only get better once fall arrives.
Places like that are spots I'd guarantee you've seen on social media before. Here's a look at the pond you can see from Oberg Mountain which you've probably seen numerous photos of.
While spots like that are phenomenal, there's another North Shore destination that I would say might even be better than those locations when it comes to incredible panoramic vistas in Northern Minnesota.
Say hello to White Sky Rock Overlook
That photo above is just a portion of the sweeping view of a beautiful inland lake and Lake Superior off over the hill you can get at this destination.
Getting to White Sky Rock Overlook is a pretty short (but slightly challenging) hike up a spur trail off the Superior Hiking Trail just inland from Lutsen a couple of miles.

Once you're at the end of this spur trail, you get an amazing view of Caribou Lake below as well as the backdrop of the Sawtooth Mountains along the Lake Superior shoreline.
Caribou Lake is a uniquely shaped lake that is neat to look at from above, and the variety of trees make for a stunning view as the trees reach peak fall colors.
What to know if you plan to visit
If you head up County Highway 4 just north of Lutsen, there's a parking area near the Caribou Lake public water access a few miles inland from Highway 61. You'll have to walk across the highway to get to the trail.
The hike is only about a third of a mile long, but the elevation gain is a little over 200 feet with some challenging terrain, so while it isn't extreme, it isn't the easiest hike on the North Shore.
