Grandma's Marathon Weekend has officially started, but there is another run tomorrow that is not part of the Grandma's Marathon runs.  The public is invited to cheer on our local police department during the Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Northeast Leg.  It starts at 9:00AM Friday, June 21st, 2013 from the steps of City Hall on Priley Drive.

They will start running “The Flame of Hope” torch from there to Boy Scout Landing in Gary New Duluth. The Torch Run is an event to raise awareness for the Special Olympics and their mission to work with special needs athletes around the world.

This run is held in conjunction with other runs around the state and culminates with the torch being passed to an athlete who will use it to start the official flame signifying the beginning of the Special Olympic Summer Games in Stillwater.

The Law Enforcement Torch is supported by the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association, Minnesota F.O.P. and the Minnesota State Patrol Troopers Association.
