Congrats are in order for Chuck D. Today (Dec. 19), the acclaimed rapper becomes Chairman of the Celebrity Board for the upcoming Universal Hip Hop Museum.

According to a new report by Billboard, the Universal Hip Hop Museum will break ground in The Bronx, New York in December 2019 and is scheduled to open in 2022. The 50,000-square foot venue will be walking distance from the Yankee Stadium. The museum has recently secured $20 million in initial funding. UHHM is designed to help preserve the history of global hip-hop music from the past, present and future.

Speaking on how honored he is for the next chapter in his life, Chuck D, who became a legend as the leader of political rap group Public Enemy, explained that the museum is necessary for the culture. "My life has been dedicated to the hip-hop genre, both serving it as an artist and curating it to share with others, and I want to carry that work over to the Universal Hip Hop Museum," Chuck D said. "The museum is what we need to organize as a collective and present its history while having a hand in its future."

Throughout his career, the rap legend has been one of hip-hop's most respected wordsmiths. UHHM Chairman of the Board, Kurtis Blow, spoke on how important it is to have Chuck D be a part of the team.

"Chuck D is one of the most intelligent and well-respected MC's in the culture of Hip Hop," Blow said. "The credibility he brings to our team is mammoth. He also understands the importance of the Universal Hip Hop Museum and vows to let the world know via a star-studded celebrity board in the near future. Flame on!!!"
