Now that winter's over and the weather has started to turn nice, many people have started to spend more time outdoors in the garage and the backyard.  If you have a bunch of old, no-longer-used items that you need to get rid of - and if you live in Superior - here's an opportunity for you.  It's the annual Spring Cleanup and this years (2021) schedule runs for four weeks - from May 3 until May 28.

Similar to years past, the spring cleanup allows homeowners the chance to have items that are too large for their usual garbage receptacle picked up by city crews for disposal.  While there are regulations as to what the city will and what they won't pickup, it's definitely a great way to get rid of those accumulated items you've been staring at for years.

The pickup schedule aligns to a detailed journey through the different neighborhoods in Superior.  Homeowners are instructed to check the schedule for their specific date and then make sure that the items they want gone are out by 7:00 AM on that morning.  There is a clarifier that property owners are not supposed to place items too early; the instruction from the city says that "[i]tems should not be placed out more than one week before pickup date".  Additionally, you don' want to be too late in getting your stuff placed out to the pickup spot:  "Items placed after 7:00 AM may not be picked up and will become the responsibility of the resident".

Items for pickup should be placed out near the normal spot where garbage is usually picked up.  You need to make sure that items are clear of traffic and the regular garbage can.

Here is a list of items that you can't leave out for the spring cleanup pickup:

  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Building, construction, and demolition materials
  • Corrugated cardboard or recyclables
  • Hazardous liquids
  • Asbestos-containing materials
  • Tires
  • TV's, appliances, and computers
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Motor oil
  • Car batteries

If you miss the spring cleanup pickup or need to haul items to the landfill yourself, it's open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:40 PM and Saturday's from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  Questions?  Call the Public Works Department:  715-394-0244.
