What To Know About Duluth’s Newest Cocktail And Food Destination, Duluth Whiskey Project
The build-up to the opening of Duluth Whiskey Project's new tasting room and distillery location has been around a year in the making - but the wait is now over!
Last July, we got word that the local spirits distiller would be opening a new tasting room and distillery location in Duluth's Lincoln Park Craft District. Since then, the team has been sharing updates on social media showing off some of the progress of their new digs as they worked to shape the building into their new home.
Duluth Whiskey Project isn't a new name in the Twin Ports area, having made whiskeys and other spirits for many years now, but this new location offers them the opportunity to interface with customers in a new way, serving up cocktails using their spirits as well as a full menu of food items.
On Wednesday (July 23), the team at Duluth Whiskey Project shared that they were indeed open to the public, dropping their hours into a simple message inviting people to stop by and check things out.

I did just that, and here's a taste of my experience.
What's the vibe at Duluth Whiskey Project?
The tasting hall is an open, casual space with a bar along the length of one whole wall, and a combination of low-top table seating and some lounge chairs to give you a couple of seating options.

There are several TVs behind the bar and on one of the tasting hall walls for watching a sporting event (or two), and the environment was chill with some music in the background, but nothing was too loud, so you could easily enjoy a conversation with the people you came with or the staff.
Speaking of the staff, the whole crew is quite friendly. I had a couple of short conversations with a few different staff members and they were all very pleasant, knowledgeable on their offerings, and just enjoyable to visit with.
What sort of drinks do they offer?
At the forefront of their drink menu are cocktails that use Duluth Whiskey Project-made whiskeys and vodka. They will also be adding beverages that use rum and other spirits soon.
While you can order up any variety of cocktails that might come to mind, they do have a pretty solid menu of house specialty cocktails. I opted for the smoked old fashioned, pictured above.
I thought the drink was smooth, well-balanced, and the little bit of smoke infused into the drink while making it added an interesting touch to a classic.
What about food at Duluth Whiskey Project?
This place feels a lot like a beer taproom in terms of how it is laid out and the general vibe. Many of the taprooms in the Twin Ports area don't have much (if any) food available, but Duluth Whiskey Project has a pretty impressive menu that includes both appetizers and entrees.
While I didn't order anything for dinner during my visit, I did look at the menu. It includes appetizers like a charcuterie board, wings, pretzels, nachos, and (get this) the Minnesota classic of chips and Top The Tater.
They have soups and salads as well as entrée options that range from mac & cheese to an Italian panini, lobster roll to tacos. They even have dessert, offering cheesecake or scoops of ice cream from nearby Love Creamery.
When are they open? What else do I need to know?
Duluth Whiskey Project's new tasting hall is open daily from noon to 10 pm.
They're located at 2226 W Superior St, Duluth, MN, in what was the On The Limit building, right next to Bergey's. This puts Duluth Whiskey Project in close walking distance to places like Duluth Cider, Ursa Minor, and Wild State Cider, as well as a couple of blocks from Bent Paddle.
