Duluth’s Bayfront On List Of Parking Lot Closures For Maintenance Work, September 20-23

Sure it's inconvenient, but it needs to happen at some point.  The City of Duluth is alerting the general public about a variety of parking lot closures over the next few days to allow work crews the ability to do some general maintenance on them.

The work will happen between the dates of September 20 and September 23, depending upon the weather.

Included on the list is Bayfront Festival Park and the parking lot at 700 Railroad Street.

During the closures, city crews will perform a variety of necessary repairs - from crack filling to seal coating, line striping to parking spot designations.  The work at Bayfront Festival Park will include some additional punch list items; in addition to the paved parking lot repairs, the park itself will be closed to pedestrians so that the walking paths can receive crack filling work and seal coating.

In general, all of the parking lots will be closed to vehicle and foot traffic for two days to allow for the work to be done and then for it to properly cure and dry.  The City of Duluth will post temporary "no parking" signs at the specific los 24 hours in advance of the closures to alert the general public.

Here is the complete list of the parks, parking lots, and trailheads included in the work:

• Bayfront Festival Park and Parking Lot:  700 Railroad Street
• 12th Street Beach Parking Lot:  1220 South Lake Avenue
• Brewer Park/Piedmont Park Trail Parking Lot:  2588 Haines Road
• Chambers Grove Park Parking Lot:  13404 Highway 23
• Hartley Park Parking Lot:  3001 Woodland Avenue
• Memorial Park Parking Lot:  5315 Grand Avenue
• Waabizheshikana: The Marten Trail/Willard Munger State Trail Parking Lot:  7009 Pulaski Street

In regards to the Hartley Nature Center, the city expects to have access to that facility for users via the new parking lot on the north side of the building.  Meanwhile, trail access to Old Hartley Road form the main parking lot will be closed.  Trail users can access Old Hartley Road via the pathways near Hartley Nature Center.  Bicycles will not be allowed to be ridden on these trails and should be walked through the detour area.

The CIty of Duluth expects that the work will be completed by the end of the day, Friday, September 23.  However, in the event of rain or inclement weather, they have reserved the dates of September 26-30 to take care of the work.
