It was a dramatic weather weekend for residents in Kansas and Oklahoma as tornadoes ripped through the lower plains, forcing a local Meteorologist  to take shelter in the station basement during his forecast.

Having been someone who lived in Kansas for 2 1/2 years during the beginning of my radio career, this time of year is no joke when it comes to severe weather in that area. Thankfully here in the upper Midwest touchdowns of tornadoes are not as common, but with all the flat land with nothing around it, Kansas is a perfect breeding ground for twisters.

NBC affiliate KSN which is located in Wichita Kansas, was in the path of the tornado and after 2 hours of broadcasting warnings about the storm they finally pulled the plug and got to a safe location in the building. Fortunately the twister missed the building, but still had to be a very scarey situation.
