Beyonce Talks Growing Up, Honesty + the True Meaning of ‘Rocket’
Beyonce got sultrier and sexier than ever on her self-titled album, and now she's explaining why -- and she's also revealing that what seems sexy on the surface may be a little more innocent than people realize.
One of the sexier songs on 'Beyonce,' 'Rocket,' is actually not about sexy stuff at all -- really! "This song actually is about singing from the heart, and harmonies and adlibs and arrangement," Bey confessed. "One of the things I love about this project is how willing all these incredible artists were to write together. Justin Timberlake, Miguel and myself all worked together to write 'Rocket.'"
Bey reveals that her younger fan base is part of why she didn't release any explicit material until recently. "Now I'm in my 30s, and those children that grew up listening to me have grown up," she explained, "and I always felt like it was my responsibility to be aware of kids and their parents and all these generations."
And it's not just impressionable kids she was worried about, either. Beyonce was simply, admittedly, a little too insecure to go all the way in her career. "I don't think I would've done it, you know, back then. I don't think I would've been confident enough. I would've been too afraid of what other people thought, but I kinda dropped that fourth wall and I did it."
"I feel like I'm having to tap into a lot of my life experiences to pull inspiration," Queen Bey continued. "I feel like I'm opening up a lot in these videos and showing a lot of sides to me that only a few people have ever seen."
